How can I protect my pet from parasites?

The most important step we always recommend is to have your pet on parasite preventive medications. We can help you choose which option is best. They usually come in topical and oral forms. All pets, including those that live exclusively indoors, need year-round parasite medication. Many pests are active even during the winter months and can easily enter your home at any time. Missing just one dose can leave your pet vulnerable. Regular checkups and keeping their toys/bowls/home area clean are also great ways to minimize their exposure to parasites.

How do I know if my pet has parasites?

We recommend regular checkups so the vet can check for any signs of parasites. At home, you can watch out for changes in looks and behaviour, as these are often the most common signs of parasitic infection:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Sudden weight loss or weight gain
  • Bloated stomach
  • Rashes, lumps and bumps on the skin
  • Excessing licking and scratching
  • Increased irritability
  • Dull coat
  • Hair loss
  • Worms in their stool
