Euthanasia

A compassionate procedure for cats and dogs suffering from chronic pain or terminal illness.

Pets aren’t just loyal companions – they are members of our family. We understand how painful it is to reach the end of your time with your pet. Euthanasia, otherwise known as assisted death, is the final act of mercy and kindness we can provide for our terminally ill furry family members. Please do not hesitate to give us a call at 613-725-3439 to learn more about how we can support you through this difficult time.

How do I know if euthanasia is right for my pet?

Medically-induced death is only considered for patients whose chronic pain and/or terminal illness are no longer responsive to treatment. Please know it is always the last option for all our patients. Euthanasia is the final act of kindness we can provide for our pets to ease their suffering. If they can no longer eat, move, breathe and sleep on their own without intense medical help, then it may be time to consider euthanasia.

What happens during veterinary euthanasia?

We have a private section of our facility dedicated to these procedures. If you choose to do so, you may accompany your pet and be with them until the very end. We recommend bringing their favourite blanket and/or toys for added comfort. The medication is administered via injection. First, it will make your pet fall asleep. Then, it will cause their organs to stop working. It is 100% pain-free and can be completed in a matter of minutes. Please know we will give you as much time as possible to say your farewells.
