Friends of Abandoned Pets (FOAP)

The mandate for Friends of Abandoned Pets is to re-establish cats and dogs abandoned in the Ottawa and surrounding area in permanent, caring homes; to prevent any further increase to the dog and cat over-population problem by spaying and/or neutering ; to prevent the spread of communicable diseases by vaccinating and providing other necessary medical care prior to their placement in permanent homes; and to promote responsible pet ownership by the dissemination of information relating to the care of pets in general and the need to spay or neuter them in particular.

Meet Mitch, a gorgeous little (7.5 kg/16 pound) two-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel/Pekinese mix. His vaccinations are up to date, he is neutered, and he is housetrained. This is a confidant, affectionate, playful, friendly, and well behaved little guy. Mitch gets along very well with the three resident dogs, and although small, loves to play rough and tussle with the two big retrievers. He is also very respectful of my little four-legged senior citizen. Mitch enjoys chasing a ball; and although he will not yet drop it for me, I can easily take it (or anything) from his mouth. Mitch's favourite game is snatching the ball from under the noses of the bigger dogs, getting them to chase him. He is certainly very bright, learns quickly and is very treat-motivated. Mitch has enjoyed quite a few cottage weekends, and although there are no fences (and lots of squirrels to chase) he never strays too far. Mitch just wants to be with his human at all times. Because Mitch is uncertain of the quick moves a child makes, he should go to an adult only home. This little guy is a treasure.
