The Carling Animal Hospital of today has evolved from the day our doors first opened in Ottawa over 19 years ago, in January 1989. Allow us to provide a brief overview of this evolution.

Dr. Janet Biggar established Carling Animal Hospital on January 1st, 1989 in premises measuring a mere 1,000 square feet. Supported by one staff member, the Veterinary Hospital was situated a couple kilometers west of our present Ottawa location.

It soon became evident that a larger facility was in order and, in the spring of 1991, we relocated further east on Carling Avenue to a 5,000 square foot location at the corner of Maitland Avenue. Today, our veterinary hospital occupies 7,577 square feet of space on a single level (no stairs) with free parking, easy access from the Queensway (highway 417) via the Woodroffe Avenue exit and is situated on major Ottawa Bus Routes. For further directions and a map, go to Contact Us.

With a staff comprised of 8 licensed Veterinarians (6 female, 2 male), 7 Technicians, 9 Client Care Representatives, 3 veterinary assistants, 2 Animal Groomers, and Administrative Support Staff, our team numbers 35 people! Effective November 1, 2003, Dr. Saye Clement became a co-owner of Carling Animal Hospital along with Dr. Keith Johnson and our founder, Dr. Janet Biggar. Visit the Meet Our Staff section to see who will be attending to you and your pet.

We are a Companion Animal Hospital accredited by the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, the licensing body for Veterinarians and animal hospitals in the province.
